With the help of the BrailleNote Apex and the Brailliant, I have been able to complete training at the Louisiana Center for the Blind.

With the help of the BrailleNote Apex and the Brailliant, I have been able to complete training at the Louisiana Center for the Blind. This training has taught me to fully accept and embrace my blindness, increase my Braille, technology, and other skills, and become a more rounded woman. These devices helped my Braille reading speed to increase to nearly 300 words a minute. I have used the Apex to assist in producing menus for several restaurants around town. I take notes with my Brailliant and my iPhone. With the help of these two amazing devices, I will soon be graduating from the Center, and going to school. I will study and become a veterinarian. Without Braille and these devices, this dream would not have been possible.
Ever since having the Braillenote Apex Bt my life has changed completely, in a positive way!
Review by Claire Potter - UK

Ever since having the Braillenote Apex Bt my life has changed completely, in a positive way! I can now revise for my exams more independently, do my own research, and communicate through email. I also do aromatherapy, so I use the database manager to keep a record of the essential oils I use. The book reader option helps me to read several books, so I don't miss out on the latest releases. I use the word processor to do my homework, classwork and exam revision. The media player helps me to listen to the latest music, so I always have access to my favourite songs. In order to revise for my exams, I use the Braille terminal function to connect the braillenote to an Apple Ipad, which gives me access to the school platform. The new quicknotes function helps to quickly note details like phone numbers, email addresses, or just general notes I quickly need to note down.
I had wanted a BrailleNote since the first time I had my hands on one in 2001.

I had wanted a BrailleNote since the first time I had my hands on one in 2001. A very good friend of mine had gotten a unit just a couple of days before I visited her so she wanted me to see if I could help her get started. At that time I used a Braille n Speak so I had a little knowledge of the command structures. Years went by and in 2004 my friend went to an NFB National Convention in Florida. There was a demo model of an 18 cell classic for sale and my friend called me from the convention to tell me about it. She and her husband were willing to buy it for me and I could then pay her back. I was the happiest person in the world, according to myself, and I loved that little unit. Soon I realized that I really needed more cells because I did reading at church and in several other places and it sounded choppy to me. How was I to get another Note? The mPower had been introduced and the price was out of my range. In 2008, another friend saw an mPower for sale at an affordable price for me. She and I were out of town for a meeting so she bought it for me on her PayPal account. So, now I have two units! I use my note takers in church, the grocery store, in my daily living, reading books, in organizational meetings and more things than I can think of. It goes almost everywhere with me and people depend on me to have a phone number to order a pizza, an address so that we can have it delivered to a friend's house and get there when it does and much, much more. I was able to purchase my very own Apex in 2012 and that's what I am now using to compose this essay. Just last week I received a GPS system so now I will begin learning it and be so much more independent. In conclusion I'd like to say that I own several Humanware products and I wouldn't trade any of them because they do what I need and I know that Humanware will serve me hopefully for a long time.

I am the first totally blind person to graduate from Georgia Tech.

I am the first totally blind person to graduate from Georgia Tech. Being one of the most technologically advanced curriculums in the world, I have been told this is an extraordinary feat. I was able to accomplish this by using many Assisstive Technology products, but especially my Victor Reader Stream and mostly by the use of my Braille Note Apex. I rarely am without one of them and almost exclusively use them together to take notes in class, communicate with peers, and to also teach undergraduates this summer. This is because I am now a PhD student in Human Centered Computing and intend to be the first totally blind person to ever graduate with a PhD from the school.

Hello, my name is Tony James. I am a 25years old man who is wheelchair-bound and as blind as a bat. Back in 2004, the Middle School I was attending purchased a Braille Note Classic for me. I was fascinated with it. It made ALL of my school work possible! From taking notes in class, taking tests and even doing my homework. It also helped me to develop my skills as a writer, which is something I have always wanted to pursue as a career. After learning on the Classic I was able to move from a self-contained classroom to mainstreamed classes in my Middle School and continued to be mainstreamed throughout my High School years. As I moved into High School I had to give up the Braille-n-Speak Scholar - because I had outgrown it and it not longer served my needs. The Braille-N-Speak was the world's first ever braille notetaker and it was nice for what it could do, but it was too primitive for the demands of mainstream school life . At that point the BrailleNote Classic, became my new best friend and compared to the Braille-n-Speak the BrailleNote was infinitely more powerful. The BrailleNote not only helped me through school but it also taught me about so many other things such as rechargeable batteries, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and disk drives, just to name a few. The Braille-n-Speak only had RAM (Random Access Memory), so I never really had any knowledge of what disk drives were . During my long history with the BrailleNote, I had many opportunities to learn about disk drives (hereafter referred to as drives) because my teacher saved my class assignments to a CompactFlash card (later we used flash drives) and I imported them into the FlashDisk of the BrailleNote. Each time I received a new device I would sit down and pretty much devour the manual and the BrailleNote was no exception. The manual was very comprehensive and explained, among other things, that rechargeable batteries lose the capacity to hold a charge over time. At the date of this writing, I am a Legacy Keysoft user three times over. I started out with the BrailleNote Classic, then I was fortunate enough to get the BrailleNote EmPower a little later. When I graduated, I had to give the EmPower back to the school . In 2012, I started a work experience program, and as part of this program I was able to use the BrailleNote Apex. Which I found outstanding!. Out of these three models, the Classic, EmPower and the Apex, the Apex has been my favorite because it was the thinnest and the lightest, not to mention the fact that it had a Wi-Fi radio built-in.
Hello I am a very proud user of this device. I do so every day, and feel it enriches my life considerably.

Hello I am a very proud user of this device. I do so every day, and feel it enriches my life considerably. I enjoy creative writing and use the Apex to write horror and other stories, a few of which have been published. I find the ability to quickly and easily take notes anywhere so very useful.. Because of the ports on the unit, I am regularly able to back things up so no fear of loosing important information, as well as using a 32gig SD card for extra backup. I teach friends and other people how to use technology, and often find myself making training notes for them about the various sessions we undertake, quickly translating braille files into Microsoft word without any difficulty. Using an iPhone with Apex is a breeze, so writing long chatty text messages is a pleasure to do. So, thank you HumanWare for such a great product.!

I have had my Braillenotd Apex for a little over three years, during which time I I have had my world opened to new levels, these levels I never thought possible. I can talk to my friends on social media, where I have made contact with my old friends from primary school, also it has really helped me with my GCSE's and this week my A-Levels, it was recently sent back for a few days during which time I felt completely lost and had to use a laptop which I hated, I love my Braillenote.
